Search Engine Optimization, like almost any other endeavor in life, takes practice, discipline, and time. And anything that takes time before results are revealed or noticeable also takes patience. A lot of patience.

There is no saying 'ah, I've reached the 1st page of Google for my chosen keywords, now I can stop working so hard, kick back and relax and watch the traffic come.' Because as soon as you stop, your results will, sooner or later and without a doubt, go away. Once you've attained your goals, you now have to work to maintain them. There is no stopping, ever.

Your SEO work is an investment into your online endeavors, whatever they happen to be, and just like investing in the stock market, it's a long-term process gauged not in days or weeks but in months and years. And just like a good investment portfolio is diversified and has a constant stream of capital added to it (weekly, bi-weekly deposits), so too should your SEO efforts be studied and touch upon all of the different development paths (link-building, keywords, social media sites) in conjunction with regular content updates.
