Questions to find what your client really needs
Assuming you're new to SEO, how do you know where to start regarding finding clients and helping them achieve their SEO needs? Let's start with the basics:
Is the client's business primarily brick-and-mortar or online? This is important to understand as where the majority of customers are coming from.
Review the client's website: html, pages, site map, title tags, keyword tags, and description tags, headers (H1 thru H4), footer, and emphasized words (bold, underline, italics).
Establish the Keywords the client is looking to rank for in search engines. Where does the client site rank right now for those keywords?
Analyze the keywords and understand how people are searching for those words/terms.
Look at the traffic going into the client's site: how are they getting there? How long are they staying once there?
Is there content on the site? Is the content being updated regularly?
Is the client using any of the social media sites to get the business name out there?
Is there a customer mailing list? A newsletter?
